Resolving an Infringement Dispute Out of Court

How the proof that your work existed first can help you settle a copyright dispute without going to court. Outcomes always depend on the facts; this guide is general information, not legal advice.

What to do before you go to court

πŸ“œ 1. Send a cease & desist letter

Ask your solicitor to send a formal letter telling the other side to stop using your work. Attach your IP Vault verification package (the certificate, the file fingerprint and the timestamp proofs).

⚑ 2. Prove when you created the work

Your Bitcoin and eIDAS timestamps show the exact date your work existed. If they are earlier than the other side's publication, that is strong evidence in your favour β€” and often enough to settle the dispute or get the work taken down without going to court.
